Camille Winslow, a recent graduate of the Fashion Design program at Kent State University, created a playful collection for her senior thesis.  Her collection was inspired by the vast creativity of young children.  Camille actually used real drawings by children to create the prints in her collection.  Her designs are fun, flowy, and colorful, and create a youthful look with the design detail.

After studying Camille’s collection, our group was drawn to the pops of color.  We also loved the youthful, whimsical prints and loose-fitting silhouettes, creating a range of ideas for our concept.  After much discussion, we decided to juxtapose the soft, playful nature of the designs with a hard edge, channeling women from another era.  Our idea was to create an “inner rebel” with small props, edgy hair, and makeup touches.   Our hair, makeup, and accessories were loosely inspired by the 1960s/70s eras, adding a vintage feel to the final shots.  For the photo shoot, we used a black background with dramatic lighting to really make the colors on the garments pop in a fun, edgy way.

We wanted our model, Danamarie, to represent a strong, independent woman in her mid to late 20s with a hidden rebellious side. Our end consumer is a savvy professional, working in a big city and reading fashion magazines in her spare time. We imagine our editorial photoshoot appearing in Nylon because of the youthful pop of colors and hard edge to the pictures. Nylon also represents a more contemporary magazine that puts a lot of focus of pop culture, music, art and travel - in addition to fashion.

The hair, makeup, accessories, and props added a vintage element to our rebel theme.  Our hair included a textured voluminous look with a messy edge.  The makeup coincided with the rebel theme because it featured a smudged, smoky eye with bright red lips.  The bright red lip was drawn from a 1960s ad featuring soft makeup and a pop of cherry red in the lipstick.  Our accessories were somewhat minimal, but they included a few necklaces, a bracelet, and a clutch for added vintage appeal.   We kept our props simple, using only a record, milk crate, and chair, in order to keep the garments as the main focus of the shots. The hair, makeup, accessories, and props really tied the whole concept together in a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing way.
